Crime Writing Workshop

Date:  Saturday 20 February 2010

Tutor: Sally Spedding

Venue: Westminster City Hall, 64 Victoria Street, London, SW1E 6QP

Fee:  £60/£45 conc.

This intensive, exciting workshop will encourage writers - both beginners and those with more experience - to push the boundaries of the crime writing genre and stand out from the crowd. The past, the future and what lies beyond us, are waiting...

The workshop will explore a significant setting, whether real or imagined, with short excerpts read from Sally’s, and others’, relevant work, analyzing different time layers, and discussing ‘sub-genres’ and how they can turn an otherwise conventional idea into something more interesting.

Consider the theme of your novel. What’s the story? Who will bring it to life?  We’ll begin the creation and detailed breakdown of the main players, including background, habits, quirks, motivation etc. Until they begin to live and breathe...Also an awareness of how your characters will develop.

Sally will also offer advice on how to submit to agents and editors using current opportunities and outlets.
