Catherine Anholt

Laur col.jpgCatherine Anholt comes from an Irish family and she was one of eight children; her father was a potter and her mother was a nurse.

Catherine trained as a Fine Artist at Falmouth School of Art where she met Laurence. She went on to take a Master's Degree in Printmaking at the Royal College of Art. She started illustrating children's books in 1984 when her first daughter was born and has since produced more than 50 titles all written by her husband, Laurence. Her books include the irrepressible Chimp and Zee series and numerous titles for Walker Books, Orchard and Frances Lincoln. She also produced much of the material for the Government funded Bookstart scheme. Her work is described as having a uniquely personal feel.

The Anholts' books are published in more than 40 languages around the world
and have won numerous awards, including the Nestlé Smarties Gold Award on
two occasions. They are the only authors to own their own bookshop: the
amazing Chimp and Zee Bookshop by the Sea' in Lyme Regis has been
described as 'like stepping inside a storybook.'
