Young Illustrator's Competition 2010
There was a wonderful array of diverse work on display for this years Young Illustrator's Competition. Many illustrations used a variety of styles and tools to depict out of this world war scenes, images of anger and frustration drawn with strong pencil strokes, and soft pastels were used for the more gentle pictures of magic and fantasy. We are always amazed at the level of interpretation of an idea that comes from the young people and the ways in which these ideas come to life on the paper.
Our Judge Claire Alexander had the wonderful task of selecting the three winners and the runners up, and although we can not pick more drawings and illustrations to feature in the Children's Story Book, we are glad that we had the opportunity to view such talented work.

I choose this illustration because it expresses the energy of an intergalactic war. The marks made with a biro are urgent and full of movement. I like the composition, there is lots going on but the focal point is the space ship.
