Llyn Brenig
A vastness of still water calms my maelstom mind.
Sails are drifting languidly, sky-trawling for wind.
They pause - a momentary photograph on glass -
before they sudden-turn, billow and skim across
playful waves, which come licking at my shingle shore.
Ranked clockwork windmills are winding, their cogged labour
churning whispers into breezes. Cloud unfurlers,
working high above lazy slopes and conifers.
A scantly planked jetty stretches, tendril-reaching
into the lake. Determined land careful-creeping,
to carry cumbersome people with straddled gait,
memories of floating in their self-conscious weight.
On the smooth lake glide fourteen sails, arrow-pointed.
From my soothed mind rise the crisp lines of a sonnet.
