Your story here

Ellie sent us her poem, 'It's A Small Life,' and Katherine includes her piece after completing the writing exercise set by Lynne Chapman.  Arenike, Sarah and Fikayo's short stories have also been added to the work in our Budding Gallery.

'IT'S A SMALL LIFE'

I'm really small,

As small as a flea,

I scuttle around

No one can see me!

I don't know how this happened,

But somehow it did,

I wonder if I'll ever

Go back to being big?

What are the good things?

What are the bad?

Should I be happy?

Should I be sad?

I can no longer run,

But now I can fly,

It's exciting, it's wonderful!

Every new turn's a surprise.

A basin of water

Is like an ocean to me,

I like to swim around

In my mum's cup of tea!

I live on table scraps,

And crumbs of bread,

But I have to watch out for the duster,

Or I might end up dead!

Stealing things from my sister

Is what I love to do,

Little things like hairclips

And the straps of her shoes.

The seat of  a stool

Is like the summit of a mountain,

I like to ride down the waterfall

(Which is actually the garden fountain!)

When a big person speaks

It's as loud as a clap of thunder,

And when a big person shouts,

I have to take cover!

The stink of the dustbin

Suffocates me!

It's awful for a normal person,

So think what it's like for me!

The feel of the carpet

Is warm on my toes,

But when I'm on the bathroom tiles,

It's as slippery as snow!

It's fun being small,

It's fun being big,

But right now,

I don't care how I live!
